Memorial Day events in Geauga County

The following are some of the events being planned to commemorate Memorial Day. All events are May 28 unless otherwise noted.

Geauga County

-- The annual Russell Township Memorial Day recognition services will be 3 p.m. today at Briar Hill meeting Hall on the South side of Fairmount Road just west of Chillicothe Road.

The speaker will be World War II veteran Aaron Fox. of Auburn Township. Fox participated in the invasion and recapture of Guam in 1944 and also the landing and capture of Iwo Jima in 1945.

-- Bainbridge Township's parade and service will be at 11:30 a.m. May 27.

The parade will begin at Bainbridge Commons and continue to Restland Cemetery behind The Community Church. This year's speaker will be Geauga County Judge Forrest W. Burt.

-- Atwood-Mauck Post 459 of the American Legion will host a service at 11 a.m. at the Burton Square Gazebo. After the ceremony there will be an open house at the post home, 14052 Goodwin St. in Burton, for those in attendance. For details, call 440-834-8764.

-- Munson Township will host a Memorial Day Service beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Maple Hill Cemetery, 13480 Auburn Road.

The ceremony will feature speakers, gun salute and taps and will recognize veterans and active duty service members.
