Military night on tap at Classic Park

The Lake County Captains will host veterans from the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center at military appreciation night today.
The veterans will be both ambulatory and in wheelchairs, but all will enjoy a night out at the ballpark with their nurses and volunteers.
The total number expected is be between 40 and 45 veterans.
The evening will offer military veterans discount tickets for $5 and fireworks will follow the games. Veterans and their families are encouraged to attend.

Poor Mans Reverse Raffle
at Willowick Legion

American Legion Post 678, 570 E. 328th St. in Willowick, will host a Poor Man’s Reverse Raffle at 6 p.m. today at the post home. Tickets are $10 a person. A cash bar and food will be available.

AMVETS Juniors host
submarine night

AMVETS Post 109, 7847 Lake Shore Blvd. in Mentor-on-the-Lake, will host a meatball submarine night 6 to 9 p.m. today at the post home. Cost is $6 for a 6-inch sub and potato chips. The juniors recently were chartered at the post and include members between the ages of 5 and 17 who are dedicated to serving our veterans and community.

Flag Day events
n American Legion Post 459, 14052 Goodwin St. in Burton, will host a “Retirement of Flags” ceremony behind the post home at 1 p.m. today. The public is welcome. For details, call 440-834-8764.
n Willowick American Legion Post 678 and Eastlake Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3863 will host a flag retirement ceremony at the Boulevard of 500 Flags at 11 a.m. Sunday. For details, call the American Legion at 440-943-9659 or the VFW at 440-942-3980.

Rummage sale
at Willoughby post

American Legion Post 214, 4304 Center St. in Willoughby, will host a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the post home. All profits from the Legion table will benefit Fisher House Foundation, which provides free and low cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centers.

Event helps family
AMVETS Post 109, 7847 Lake Shore Blvd. in Mentor-on-the-Lake, will host a fundraiser for the family of John Makse, beginning with a steak dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, followed by side board drawings and entertainment.
Makse, an Air Force veteran, died in March at age 48.
Tickets are $15 a person or two for $25.

Legion Riders host
annual flea market

The Legion Riders of American Legion Post 112, 6671 Middle Ridge Road in Madison, will host the second annual Flea Market on Saturday at the post home. Spaces will be $10 with table; second table will be $5. The sale is open to everyone who would like to clean out their attic, garage or basement.

Painesville post hosts
pancake breakfast

VFW Post 2595, 570 Liberty St. in Painesville, will host breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday at the post home. A pancake breakfast that includes eggs and bacon will be served.

Garage sale benefits Color Guard
American Legion Post 336 annual Color Guard Flea Market and Garage Sale will be 9 to 5 p.m. Thursday through June 22 at the post, 60 Chester St. in Painesville.

Middlefield Rotary Motorcycle Run set for June 30
The eighth annual Burton Middlefield Rotary Motorcycle Run to raise funds for local veterans will be June 30 beginning at the Geauga County Fairgrounds, 14373 N. Cheshire St. in Burton Township. The ride will be led by Sheriff Dan McClelland and his dog, Midge. Registration and sponsorship information can be found at www.bmrmotocyclerun.com.

Chardon post hosts
rummage sale

Chardon VFW Post 6519, 752 Water St. in Chardon, will host a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 21 and 22 at the post home. No furniture or clothing will be available.

BALD run hosted
by Painesville Legion

American Legion Post 336, 60 Chester St. in Painesville, will host the annual BALD Run (Bikers Aiding Local Diabetes) June 29.
The run is $15 a person, bike or automobile. First bike out from Post 336 will be at noon and last bike to the Post at 5 p.m. with four stops on the run. BALD Run Inc. is a nonprofit organization with proceeds benefiting those in this area affected by diabetes.
