Annual Fall Veterans Memorial Oct. 4

The Fall Veterans Memorial will begin at noon Oct. 4 at 8500 Civic Center Drive, in front of Mentor City Hall.
The event pays tribute to the anniversary of the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, on Oct. 23, 1983.
Elisa M. Camara lost her older brother, Sgt. Mecot Camara, when a truck laden with explosives rammed the gate of the barracks. Camara and 240 other Americans died in the explosion.
Camara will talk about her brother and how his death in the bombing has affected her life in the intervening 31 years. The public is encouraged to attend.

Young Marines looking for staff members
The Greater Lake County Young Marines group is looking for additional staff members.
A few staff positions are available and need to be filled. If you enjoy working with kids and want to help mold the future leaders of America, the group needs you.
Prior service in any branch of the military is preferred, but not necessary. Female volunteers are especially encouraged to apply.

Legion Auxiliary raffles basket
The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 678 is hosting a basket raffle. The basket contains $50 gift certificates from Petie’s Family Restaurant, Cala’s Pizza and Rudy’s Meats. The drawing will be held during the intermission of Sunday bingo on Nov. 9. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. If interested, call Maribeth Shankman at 216-408-6284.

Willoughby Hills ladies host bake sale
The Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4358, 29412 White Road in Willoughby Hills, will host its annual bake sale at 3 p.m. Oct. 4.
The sale will feature homemade pies, cakes, bread and cookies. All proceeds from the sale will benefit veterans and their families. For details, call the post at 440-946-1642.

Post has hall for rent
American Legion Post 678, 570 E. 328th St. in Willowick, has a hall for rent.

Madison ladies serve dinner first Saturday
VFW Post 8548, 7604 Lake Road E. in Madison Township, will host the monthly Ladies Auxiliary dinner on the first Saturday evening of each month at the post home.
The ladies will serve dinner 4 to 7 p.m. each first Saturday. Proceeds benefit VFW Auxiliary charities.

Willoughby post serves fish fry
VFW Post 1500, 38295 Pelton Road in Willoughby, hosts a fish fry every first and third Friday of the month 5 to 8 p.m. A full menu is offered. For details, call 440-951-9233 or stop in at the post for a meal.

Eastlake VFW hosts clambake
The Ladies Auxiliary Unit of VFW Post 3863, 33641 Vine St. in Eastlake, will host a clambake from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Oct. 4 at the post home.

Tailgate party at Painesville Legion
American Legion Post 336, 60 Chester St. in Painesville, will host a Browns-Steelers tailgate party from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at the post home.
Tickets are $10 and include admission, $1,000 raffle, food, soft drinks and draft beer. For details, call the post home at 440-357-7711.

Reverse raffle at Madison Post
VFW Post 8548, 7604 Lake Road E. in Madison Township, will host a reverse raffle beginning at 4 p.m. Oct. 18.

Willoughby Hills ladies serve cabbage roll dinner
The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 4358 will host a homemade cabbage roll dinner Oct. 19 at the post, 29412 White Road in Willoughby Hills. Dinners will be $10 per person and reservations are requested by Oct. 10. To make reservations call the post at 440-944-1642 or Rosina Drenski at 440-944-4903.

Billy Sullivan appears at Willoughby VFW
VFW Post 1500, 38295 Pelton Road in Willoughby, will host an evening with Billy Sullivan from 8 to 11 p.m. Oct. 25 at the post home.
His performance will include music from the 1950s through today.
Bar type food and a cash bar are part of the fun. Tickets are $5 for members or $10 for nonmembers, call Don Boston at 440-669-3495.

PLAV to host Fisher House fundraiser
Polish Legion of American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 31 will host a benefit for Greater Cleveland Fisher House at Tizzano’s Party Center, 1361 E. 260th Street in Euclid.
The event will be 4 to 10 p.m. Nov. 15 with a dinner buffet and live music.
Tickets are $30 and available for purchase by call 216-337-8997. Additional fun includes sideboards, Chinese auction tickets, a 50/50 raffle and cash bar. The auxiliary is also accepting donations for raffle baskets.
