What are you doing for Veterans Day?

Veterans Day is Nov. 11, which is less than one month from now. Will the area posts be doing anything special to honor the country’s veterans?
Ceremonies honoring the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces are usually the highlight of the day. The posts and detachments in the area are encouraged to submit details of what will be happening on that day and where the public can take part in honors ceremonies.

Willoughby VFW offers fish fry dinners
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1500, 38295 Pelton Road in Willoughby, hosts a fish fry from 5 to 8 p.m. every first and third Friday of the month. A full menu is offered. For details, call 440-951-9233 or stop in at the post for a meal.

Madison VFW hosts reverse raffle
VFW Post 8548, 7604 Lake Road E. in Madison, will host a reverse raffle beginning at 4 p.m. Oct. 18. Tickets are $40 per person and include dinner.
The evening includes an open bar, Chinese auction, sideboards and 50/50 raffle. For details or tickets, call the post home at 440-428-3050.

Lake Erie College post serves spaghetti dinner
The Andy Nowacki Lake Erie College VFW Post 807 will host a spaghetti dinner at America Legion Post 336, 60 Chester St. in Painesville beginning at 6 p.m. Oct. 18.

Willoughby Hills post hosts cabbage roll dinner
VFW Post 4358 Ladies Auxiliary, 29412 White Road in Willoughby Hills, will host a cabbage roll dinner from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 19 at the post home. Call 440-944-1642 or Rosina Drenski at 440-944-4903 for information.

Breakfast available at Painesville post
The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 2595, 570 Liberty Street in Painesville, will host a breakfast beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 19, at the post home. For more information, call 440-354-9090.

Willoughby Legion serves cabbage rolls
Palmer-Roberts American Legion Unit 214 Auxiliary, 4304 Center St. in Willoughby, will host its annual cabbage roll dinner beginning at 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at the post.
Dinners are $7 each and proceeds benefit the Auxiliary Unit to support American Legion sanctioned programs.

Clambake at Chardon post
VFW Post 6519, 752 Water St. in Chardon, will host its annual clambake from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the post home.
Tickets, which must be purchased before Oct. 20, are $25 per person and extra clams will be $10 per dozen.

Billy Sullivan appears at Willoughby post
VFW Post 1500, 38295 Pelton Road in Willoughby, will host an evening with Billy Sullivan from 8 to 11 p.m. Oct. 25 at the post home.
The event is also a membership drive with proceeds benefiting VFW Charities. Bar-type food and a cash bar will be available.

Pulled pork in Painesville
VFW Post 2595, 570 Liberty St. in Painesville, will host a dinner featuring pulled pork sandwiches with sides from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the post home.

Cornhole tournament in Willoughby
The Sons of the American Legion of Post 214, 4304 Center St. in Willoughby, will host a cornhole tournament 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 (in case of rain the event will be indoors).

Veterans Appreciation dinner at senior center
The 5th Annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast, co-sponsored by Perkins Pancake House in Painesville, will be 9:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Mentor Senior Center, 8484 Munson Road in Mentor.
The breakfast will include a color guard, musical entertainment, guest speakers and a pinning ceremony by Hospice of the Western Reserve.
The meal is free for veterans and $4 for guests. Registration is required by Nov. 4 in person or by calling 440-974-5725.

Legion Auxiliary raffles basket
The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 678, 570 E. 328th St. in Willowick,  is hosting a basket raffle.
The basket contains $50 gift certificates from Petie’s Family Restaurant, Cala’s Pizza and Rudy’s Meats. The drawing will be during the intermission of Sunday bingo, Nov. 9.

Fisher House benefit hosted by PLAV
The Polish Legion of American Veterans, U.S.A. Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 31 will host a benefit for the Greater Cleveland Fisher House from 4 to 10 p.m. Nov. 15 at Tizzano’s Party Center, 1361 E. 260th St. in Euclid.
Tickets are $30 each and include dinner served from 5 to 6:45 p.m. and live music. Available for additional purchase will be sideboards, Chinese auction tickets, 50/50 raffle and a cash bar.

Veterans Hospitality dinner at Old South Church
A Veterans Hospitality Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 at Old South Church, 9802 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland.
The family event is designed to bring area veterans together in appreciation of their service. This will be the last dinner sponsored by the Ghostrider Foundation.

Catholic War Veterans host reverse raffle
Catholic War Veterans of Lake County will sponsor a reverse raffle beginning at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Patrician Party Center, 33150 Lakeland Blvd. in Eastlake.
Main prize will be $1,500 and only 150 tickets will be sold. Admission tickets are $65 per ticket or $35 for a dinner ticket. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the door.
For tickets, call Bill Varga at 440-352-2314. Make checks payable to Catholic War Veterans, John Paul II Post 1959 and mail to 69 Newell St., Painesville, OH 44077.
