Team RWB addresses PTSD with endurance sports

Team Red, White and Blue addresses mental health issues within the veterans community through endurance sports, leadership training camps and volunteer activities to enhance the lives of veterans and assist them in reintegration into the local community.
Thomas Beers, veterans outreach director of Team RWB Cleveland/Akron, will speak at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland at 11:45 a.m. Nov. 11. The public is welcome.
The Cleveland/Akron chapter of Team RWB will participate in the national flag relay on Nov. 4. The relay is being done to show support for our nation’s heroes as it crosses the country carried by members of the RWB team. The relay began Sept. 11 in San Francisco, California, and will end on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, just outside of Washington, D.C., at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Team Cleveland/Akron has 12 runners who will participate over challenging terrain, beginning in Fairview, Ohio, just east of Columbus, crossing the Ohio River into West Virginia and ending in Claysville, Pennsylvania. Team Cleveland/Akron is the only RWB team that will step into three states. For more information about Team Red, White and Blue, visit TEAMRWB.org.

Ladies Auxiliary President visits Painesville post
The Ladies Auxiliary of Painesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2595, 570 Liberty St. in Painesville, will host State President Sandra Uzell at a whistle stop membership pickup visit at 3 p.m. Nov. 2 at the post home. Dine to Donate’ at Applebee’s
Operation S.T.A.T. will host a “Dine to Donate” night at Applebee’s on Maplegrove Road in Willoughby Hills on Nov. 5. Applebee’s will donate 15 percent of the bill to Operation S.T.A.T. from each patron who visits the restaurant with the Dine to Donate flier. The flier is available on the Operation STAT Facebook page.

Marine Corps Birthday Ball announced
The 239th USMC Birthday Ball sponsored by Marine Corps League Detachment 782 will be 6 p.m. to midnight Nov. 8 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall, 133 South Spruce St. in Jefferson. The event is open to the public and tickets are $45 per couple or $25 per single. For details, call Tom Lucas Jr. at 440-813-3914.

Legion Auxiliary raffles basket
The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 678, 570 E. 328th St. in Willowick, will host a basket raffle.
The basket contains $50 gift certificates from local merchants.
The drawing will be during the intermission of Sunday bingo on Nov. 9. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. If interested, call Maribeth Shankman at 216-408-6284.

Leroy post hosts pork chop dinner
Leroy-Thompson VFW Post 7939, 12827 Painesville Warren Road in Leroy Township, will host a pork chop dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at the post home. Dinners will be $12 each. For details, call 440-254-0609.

Catholic War Veterans recruiting week
Catholic War Veterans of the United States will be actively recruiting the week of Nov. 8-16 at Catholic churches in the Greater Cleveland area. Organized in 1935, membership is open to baptized Catholic men and women who served at least 90 days active duty in any branch of the Armed Forces. Madison Library helps with fundraising
The Madison Public Library, 6111 Middle Ridge Road in Madison, is helping local veterans with the naming of the Madison High School football field.
The field will be the “Dick Hamblin Field.” Hamblin was the first local casualty of the Vietnam War.
The library will have a donation jar out at the library the week of Veterans Day, Nov. 10 to 15. Funds collected will be used to purchase a sign for under the scoreboard.

SALs host Poor Man’s Reverse Raffle
The Sons of the American Legion will host a Poor Man’s Reverse Raffle beginning at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at American Legion Post 678, 570 E. 328th St. in Willowick.
Tickets are $15 each and on sale at the bar. Live entertainment by Alex Bevan will follow in the canteen. For details, call the post home at 440-943-9659.

Work party at Boulevard of Flags
The Eastlake Boulevard of 500 Flags volunteer committee will host a work party at 9 a.m. Nov. 15 to lower the flags.
The work party is open to anyone who would like to volunteer. Those helping should bring gloves. For information about volunteering, call 440-951-1416.

Fundraiser benefits Fisher House
The Polish Legion of American Veterans, U.S.A. Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 31, will host a benefit for the Greater Cleveland Fisher House from 4 to 10 p.m. Nov. 15 at Tizzano’s Party Center, 1361 E. 260th St. in Euclid.
Tickets are $30 each and include a buffet dinner served from 5 to 6:45 p.m. and live music. To purchase tickets or donate a raffle basket or item, please call 216-337-8997.

Veterans Hospitality Dinner at Old South Church
A Veterans Hospitality Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Old South Church, 9802 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland.
The family event is designed to bring area veterans together. This will be the last dinner sponsored by the Ghost Rider Foundation.
